Elbit Systems UK Training and Simulation Programmes

We are market leaders in innovative, high technology training solutions.

Integrated Indirect Fire Simulation (IIDFS)

In 2023 Elbit Systems UK won a contract from the UK Ministry of Defence to develop and provide artillery and mortar training simulators for the British Army.

IIDFS will provide simulated training for the British Army’s 81mm mortars and 105mm Light Gun using simulated ammunition and a unique, high-tech interface for live communications between instructors and military personnel.

Joint Fires Synthetic Trainer (JFST)

JFST delivers high-fidelity immersive training for troops who direct fires from artillery, combat aircraft, helicopters or Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles – known as Joint Fires Operators. With the completion of final trials in late 2024, ESUK delivered its sixth and final JFST training platform type – the JFST Mobile to Front-Line Commands.

With all six capabilities delivered, these include different variants of JSFT systems to bases across the UK including at the Royal School of Artillery, Larkhill, and the Air Ground Operations School at RAF Leeming. The systems fielded include a 285-degree dome for JTAC training, versions to provide mounted and dismounted training as well as the capabilities to provide the training needed for personnel to conduct battle group level exercises.

The 285-degree dome system has also passed US and NATO accreditation meaning that it can be used by allied nations to provide JTAC and joint fires training to deliver better prepared Armed Forces Personnel.

To date, JFST has delivered over 12,000 hours of training to British Armed Forces and NATO allies.

Interim Combined Arms Virtual Simulation (Deployed) (ICAVS(D))

Benefitting the British Army since 2022, the system provides high-quality immersive tactical training to service personnel and has been used across Europe demonstrating the expeditionary potential of the system.

ICAVS(D) uses the latest high-specification hardware and Defence Virtual Simulation Software (DVS2) to deliver immersive virtual tactical training in the Army’s Battlecraft Syllabus, enabling regular and reserve units to get the most out of subsequent live field training exercises.

ICAVS(D) has been deployed as part of Operation CABRIT – the UK’s deployment to Estonia and Poland – and Exercise CERBERUS 22, the largest Field Army exercise in Europe for the past decade.

Project Vulcan

Elbit Systems UK was contracted by the Ministry of Defence in 2023 to design, provide, maintain, and operate the Ground Manoeuvre Synthetic Trainer (GMST) system for Boxer armoured vehicles and Challenger 3 tanks.

The programme streamlines the training process for these armoured vehicles and the first installation (Platform Crew Trainer Light) is now installed at Bovington.

Project Vulcan provides a realistic synthetic training environment to qualify crews before operating Boxer armoured vehicles and Challenger 3 tanks.

Project Selborne

Project Selborne is the Royal Navy’s programme to transform education and shore-based training for sailors and marines. Team Fisher is the Capita led consortium delivering the training transformation programme.

As part of Team Fisher, Elbit Systems UK isthe synthetic integrator on Project Selborne. ESUK run the Maritime Composite Training System, which lies at the heart of maintaining operational readiness for the Royal Navy, and Elbit Systems UK will provide continuous upgrades throughout the lifespan of the current systems to assist the Royal Navy in remaining at the cutting-edge of operational readiness.

Working as the Synthetic Training Integrator for Team Fisher, Elbit Systems UK will also introduce new and upgraded simulation systems to transform training, and to support Team Fisher’s aim of bringing better trained sailors to the front line faster.

Successful innovative training projects have also included the VR Flight Deck Marshalling system as seen here:

Affinity

A Joint Venture between ESUK and KBR, known as Affinity, is a key part of the UK Military Flying Training Scheme with approximately 200 employees.

Operating out of RAF Valley, RAF Cranwell and RAF Barkston Health, Affinity provides 42 aircraft across four fleets with over 50,000 training hours delivered since 2016.
